Dermatology, defined as the science of the skin, is the medical specialty concerned with diseases of the skin and their treatment.In this field, all disorders of the skin—an organ that is vital for the human body—are examined and treated.
Commonly known as “cildiye” in Turkish, dermatology also plays an active role in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting skin appendages (hair, nails, sweat glands), mucosal areas such as the oral cavity, and sexually transmitted infections. Dermatologists specialize in topics such as the general structure and functions of the skin, maintaining skin integrity and health, allergic skin diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, infectious diseases, hair and nail disorders, neoplastic diseases, and cutaneous findings of certain metabolic/systemic disorders. With their knowledge and skills, they work to promote public health.
From the most common to the rarest skin diseases, dermatologists are fully equipped to manage every condition and, when necessary, collaborate with other specialties to restore patients to health. Playing an effective role in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases observed at all ages—from infancy to adulthood—dermatologists provide individualized treatment approaches and closely monitor recovery to deliver comprehensive dermatologic care.
